Venus Square Mars & New Moon in Libra 17°: Your Weekly Horoscopes for October 5–11, 2026

A New Moon in Libra, relationship developments and important decisions: What this week’s major astrological events could mean for you and your rising sign

Welcome to your Weekly Horoscope & Welcome to October!

This week’s most notable event in the sky is the New Moon in Libra at 17°, which takes place on Saturday, October 10th. However, this isn’t quite the simple fresh start we usually connect with New Moon energy.

Before we dive deeper, on Wednesday, October 7th, Mercury and retrograde Venus conjoin at 8° Scorpio. Mercury rules communication, information, decisions, and how we interpret what is happening around us. Venus, on the other hand, rules relationships, agreements, money, and what we value. Since Venus is retrograde, their meeting is unlikely to introduce something entirely new. Instead, it may prompt us to review or revisit something we’ve already considered. Something that we dismissed weeks ago might suddenly seem more important, or we may finally understand why a certain situation has been bothering us.

Another reason this conjunction merits attention is that Venus is currently moving through Scorpio, a sign traditionally ruled by Mars and, in modern astrology, by Pluto. As mentioned before, Scorpio is the sign in which Venus is in detriment and therefore not in her strongest position.

Venus has a natural tendency towards harmony, connection, and balance, while Scorpio is associated with signs which are much more confrontational and decisive. On October 7th, when Mercury joins her, we might finally get the right words for something Venus has recently been questioning.

Also on Wednesday, Mars in Leo will form a supportive sextile with Uranus in Gemini, bringing a completely new type of energy; if something has been feeling stagnant or stuck, it may finally begin to move or become clearer if we try to adopt a different approach instead of simply trying to make the original one work.

However, the main event of the week takes place on Saturday, October 10th, when the Sun and Moon meet at 17°21′ Libra. Libra is connected with relationships, agreements, fairness, negotiation, and our capacity to take another person’s point of view; therefore, a New Moon in this sign can mark the beginning of a new phase in these areas.

Since the New Moon forms a supportive sextile aspect with Jupiter in Leo, this indicates that any initiative taken at this time has the potential to develop, but when we are dealing with a New Moon, it is not sufficient merely to look at the sign in which it appears; we must also take into account the state of the planet that rules that sign, and that leads us to Venus.

Since Libra is a cardinal sign ruled by Venus, and Venus is currently retrograde, it is at a disadvantage in Scorpio and is being challenged by a significant square from Mars in Leo. Although the New Moon might offer us an opportunity, its ruler is still weighing the pros and cons, meaning that a new situation could now start, suggesting that an important relationship in our lives is about to enter a new phase; it might show that an important agreement is being renewed or reconsidered, or that a new course/direction could appear. Yet this does not mean that all matters will be settled or make sense right away.

Venus will also reach her second exact square with Pluto on October 20th, continuing a sequence that began with the first Venus-Pluto square on September 15th.

The Venus-Pluto squares in this cycle:

  • September 15th — first exact square
  • October 20th — second exact square, Venus retrograde
  • December 9th — final exact square, Venus direct

A situation that first appeared in September could reappear later this month for a second attempt. When Venus completes its final square in December while moving direct, we may see the matter in a completely different light. Could this Libra New Moon offer a great chance to start afresh as we begin to realise what wasn’t working from the start?
